Edward Augustus Barnett purchased the home November 20, 1908 and moved into town from his plantation about 8 miles west of Washington, making this his town house from which he supervised his lands in the country. The home remained in the Barnett family for almost 100 years!

Ranking at the top of Washington's architectural treasures, the Tupper-Barnett home is listed on the National Register of historic places and also holds the distinct designation as a National Landmark.
