Built by the young Washington lawyer and early leader in Georgia politics, Daniel Chandler in 1828 , this grand Southern Antebellum with its rare Temple-of-the-Winds Corinthian pillars , stands today on 6 + park-like acres with towering oaks and magnolias, representing but a remnant of the much larger Plantation that stretched along Lexington Avenue once the seat of the plantation and lands of the Honorable Duncan G. Isaiah Tucker Irvin II bought the home in 1835. He was commander of the Wilkes Guards, CSA. Upon his death in 1860 in a New Orleans explosion, the soldiers changed the name of their company to The Irvin Guards. Captain Irvin was Speaker of the House of Representatives at the time of his death.
