Graciously Southern "Chandler-Irvin" Home
c. 1828
15 Lexington Avenue
HISTORIC Washington, Georgia
SOLD!

Built by the young Washington lawyer and early leader in Georgia politics, Daniel Chandler in 1828 , this grand Southern Antebellum with its rare Temple-of-the-Winds Corinthian pillars , stands today on 6 + park-like acres with towering oaks and magnolias, representing but a remnant of the much larger Plantation that stretched along Lexington Avenue once the seat of the plantation and lands of the Honorable Duncan G. Campbell, father of Daniel Chandler's wife, Sarah G. Campbell.

Isaiah Tucker Irvin II bought the home in 1835. He was commander of the Wilkes Guards, CSA. Upon his death in 1860 in a New Orleans explosion, the soldiers changed the name of their company to The Irvin Guards. Captain Irvin was Speaker of the House of Representatives at the time of his death.

The renovated home, wearing a fresh coat of paint, has beautiful fluted columns and wide verandas on three sides evoking a sense of the old south and a simpler , slower pace that has all but vanished with the exception of a few slivers in time when today' s generation is fortunate enough to capture a bit of this past while basking in the spirit of these glorious old mansions.

Once operated as a B&B, this magnificent home boast five (5) spacious bedrooms with five (5) and one-half baths. (Each bedroom has private bath) There are center halls up and down with a cross hall on the main level and side entry creating a gentle flow in the homes floor plan for true southern entertaining allowing guest to meander in and out onto the verandas.

Beautiful ascending staircase , random width heart of pine floors , original windows (some floor to ceiling), mantled fireplaces with gas coal burners, glistening chandeliers, and pocket doors are but a few of the wonderful features of this magnificent home.

On the main level, off the center hall, there is a formal parlor, formal dining room, breakfast/keeping room, spacious bedroom with bath (possible library/den). To the rear of the home is an oversized country kitchen with commercial gas stove. Adjoining is a large laundry/utility room and small back porch.

Remaining 4 bedrooms and 4 baths are on the second level adjoining the stair hall and grand landing adding to common areas for seating or quiet enjoyment.

Make this TRUE HISTORIC TREASURE your own!
